about

Considered by Bunny X to be the sequel to their first sci-fi inspired release, Unknown Places, The Darkest Place, originally titled The Gateway, is loosely based on and inspired by The Expanse book series, written by James S. A. Corey, the joint pen name of authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck.

Specifically, the song centers around and imagines a determined protagonist who has been on a desperate, decade-long hunt through different galaxies and gateways to find their missing loved one. This protagonist is determined to never, ever give up the search, particularly with the knowledge that their loved one is likely to be waiting for them in a dark and inhospitable place.

lyrics

Tried so hard to keep you close
But it looks we failed
Floating blind in the darkness
And just falling without end

10 long years since you’ve been home
Beheld the face of a friend
But I will never give up
And when I get you back I won’t

Won’t let them take you away again
Oh no
Won’t let them take you away
You’ll always run free my friend
No I won’t
Won’t let them take you away

Close your eyes and count to zero
And you’ll see my face
Yes I know you’ve been waiting
In the darkest place
But I swear I won’t

Won’t let them take you away again
Oh no
Won’t let them take you away
You’ll always run free my friend
No I won’t
Won’t let them take you away

You fought so hard
Now I need to bring you home
Lost in a world
A galaxy that’s still unknown

I’ll pay any price
Promise I won’t let you go
Won’t fall for the lie
I swear this time we’re getting close

Won’t let them take you away again
(You fought so hard
Now I need to bring you home)
Oh no
Won’t let them take you away
(Lost in a world
A galaxy that’s still unknown)

You’ll always run free my friend
(I’ll pay any price
Promise I won’t let you go)
No I won’t
Won’t let them take you away
(Won’t fall for the lie
I swear this time we’re getting close)
