“Breaking Away (Song for Chevette & Rydell),” the second single released on the album, was inspired by renowned science fiction author William Gibson’s “Bridge” trilogy which includes the novels Virtual Light (1993), Idoru (1996) and All Tomorrow's Parties (1999) and centers specifically on two recurring characters in the series, Chevette Washington (a bicycle courier) and Berry Rydell (a security guard). The two characters, who appear prominently in Virtual Light and All Tomorrow’s Parties, and upon whom the track is based, navigate a dystopian post earthquake California and continue to find themselves in one predicament after another.

Breaking Away (Song for Chevette & Rydell) brings Bunny X together again with legendary synthwave/80s producer SelloRekt / LA Dreams and marks their fourth collaboration with one another. “Breaking Away” was originally released as an instrumental track on SelloRekt / LA Dreams’ EP entitled Break Away, released in July 2022. Similar to their prior collaborations, Bunny X approached SelloRekt / LA Dreams with an idea for a vocal arrangement and, happily, SelloRekt / LA Dreams agreed.
